A baby in tow during an outing can be a huge hassle especially if you were unable to pack the things you need like diapers and milk. The solution: Diaper Bags. A diaper bag, also called a nappy bag, is a bag used for storage with numerous pocket-like compartments, and spacious enough to carry all the things you need for baby-care while out on a trip or adventure.
Diaper bags come in many sizes and in many shapes and there are plenty of trendy diaper bags to choose from. It is up to you what bag to choose depending on your preference and your needs. However, remember that a diaper bag must be able to hold all the things your baby needs during travels or outings (e.g. bottles of milk, ointments, powder, etc.) and even some of your own things (e.g. wallet, cellular phone, etc.). Don’t forget though, there are many styles available for the more discerning mother, whether you are after a designer diaper bag or even backpack diaper bags.
Below are some “essentials” (aside from milk) that you should not forget to pack inside your nappy bag every time you and your baby goes out of the house.
Diapers
This definitely should be on top of the list and should never leave anyone’s nappy bag. There are some people who use cloth diapers but disposable diapers are more recommended during outings. Five to seven pieces of diapers should be enough. This might seem excessive but you can never tell when you might get stuck in traffic or when you might have to wait long at the paediatrician’s clinic.
Wet Wipes
Changing diapers can be a messy job and wet wipes help in this regard. Aside from cleaning your baby’s bottom, wet wipes are also handy for cleaning the face, the hands and even for blotting spills and stains. Wet wipes are available in travel packs or travel dispensers and will easily fit inside your nappy bag. If you do not have a travel pack or a travel dispenser, you can preserve the wet wipes’ moisture by putting them inside a zip-lock plastic bag.
Rash Ointment
Diaper rash can disturb you and your child at any point in your trip. The skin around the baby’s bottom can become tender, irritated and reddened. Be sure to carry a tube of rash ointment to ease your baby’s discomfort once the rashes appear.
Medical or First-aid kit
Bring a considerable number of medications for fever and colds as these are the likely conditions a baby may get while on a trip or an outing. If the baby has a pre-existing medical condition such as an allergy, do not forget to bring the prescribed medications. A small bottle of alcohol, bandages, and a bottle of iodine solution should also be kept inside the kit or wounds.
Important Documents
Documents like ID’s, insurance cards and contact numbers of various people and agencies you can get in touch with in case an emergency occurs, should also be kept in your diaper bag. All the best diaper bags have little pockets in them to keep your important documents safe and away from dirty diapers.
